The type of weather/conditions that makes for producing the proscuitto and culatello that this part of the Emilia-Romagna region is known for is not necessarily great for touring the countryside to see the remnants of centuries old castles from a distance. But it is winter after all, and if going outside depended on sunshine, well, we’d still be at home!
We only managed to visit just three of the many castles near the cities of Parma and Piacenza on this trip. We visited the elegant Reggia di Colorno and the Rocca San Vitale di Fontanellato before lunch, and by the time we made it to the Castello di Torrechiara in Langhirano, the fog really started to roll in.
